GE 393 DEG - The Theory and Practice of Engineering Innovation, Invention, and Creativity Administrative and Academic Standards
Grade decomposition. The course grade is determined as follows: Class participation . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 40 % Class participation. Students are required to read, analyze, and present a number of readings during the semester. Students will present powerpoint presentations and lead a class discussion on those days. Hard copy and electronic versions of the powerpoint presentations should be submitted. Bullet busters are graded as part of the participation score. Term project. The term project will be on a topic relevant to the course. All projects are to be conducted individually. The project will result in a twelve-to-twenty page, journal-like paper. Final examination. The term project will count as a take-home final. Grading. Grading follows the traditional scale with + (>7) and - (<3) grades. Borderline cases are evaluated individually, and course grades are raised solely at the instructor's discretion, using attendance, enthusiasm, or other subject factors in that judgment. Attendance. Students are expected to attend all class meetings. Obtaining notes or reviewing missed lectures is your responsibility. Aid: Office hours are posted. Other meetings can be made by appointment. E-mail is an effective way to communicate with the instructor. IlliGAL: The Illinois Genetic Algorithms Laboratory (IlliGAL) Library can be used by students in the class by appointment with the librarians (library@illigal.ge.uiuc.edu). Papers and materials are available for same-day use and should be used in the IlliGAL library or copied and returned immediately. Assignments and course content are subject to modification when circumstances so dictate. If changes are made, you will be given appropriate notice. |
